Apps for local deals are my favorite apps. Not only they allow me to find various deals in the local area like a pro, but they provide me the convenience to carry vouchers with me on my smartphone and redeem offers when needed. Here are 5 best local deals apps for finding great deals on restaurants, spas, leisure activities, and more:

Groupon is a hugely popular website and mobile app that allows users to purchase deals in the local area in many categories, ranging from beauty & spa and food & drink to automotive and home services. Many deals are 50% off. Some have even higher discounts.

You just need to enter your zip code or choose “current location,” Groupon will find the deals close to your area.

Occasionally, Groupon offers an extra discount such as extra 20% off or $5 off $20+.

Purchase Groupon gift cards from Raise.com for extra savings.

LivingSocial is one of the top competitors of Groupon. It is similar to Groupon in that one can purchase local deals online or using the app and get the voucher within a few minutes. They also periodically provide extra discount offer codes.

Local Favor

Local flavor is another great app that saves you money on local goods and services. There are two kinds of offers–deal offers and coupon offers.

Deals are generally 50% off. Just like using Groupon and LivingSocial, you need to purchase prepaid certificates (e.g., deal price $15 for full value $30) from their website or app and redeem the vouchers when needed. Coupon offers (e.g., $5 off $20+) do not require payment, rather, you clip the coupon and save it for future use.

As a mom, I love CertifiKid because it is geared specifically to family and offers tons of family-focused deals. Over the past years, I have found many amazing deals from their website for summer camps, ballet classes, birthday parties, just to name a few. This program has helped me save hundreds of dollars on various kids and family activities.

Started in the Greater Washington-Baltimore area, CertifiKid keeps expanding their reach. It currently offers family-oriented deals in big cities such as Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.

Hand-Picked Atlanta by Scoutmob

The name of the app may be a little misleading. Scoutmob does not only offer deals in Atlanta. In addition to Atlanta (their business location and primary service area), they also list deals in other cities in the U.S., including Nashville, New York, and Washington DC.

Local Perks provides 50% incentives to explore various restaurants in a local area. When you see one restaurant in the app that interests you, save the deal to “my stash.” When you are ready to use the deal, make sure you are at the deal location (restaurant), and their GPS will locate you. Simply show the deal to the server and your deal will be granted.

When you use apps for local deals, make sure you read the fine print carefully, particularly the expiration date and restrictions.

Besides, you can maximize your savings by using cashback apps such as Rakuten (perviously “Ebates”) or TopCashBack to purchase deals from Groupon and LivingSocial. Check out 5 best cashback apps to save more money.
